GAGA winners 2016

The prestigious Galvanizers Association Annual Awards took place at the end of June 2016. So who won the coveted ‘Galvanized Watering Cans’, and what projects did they win awards for?

The annual GAGA awards, hosted by the Galvanizers Association, took place at the end of June 2016, at an elegant London hotel. For architects, steel fabricators and galvanizers alike, this is the must-attend event of the year and many people were in attendance.

Back in June we listed the winners as well as the awards they received, but as the projects were exemplary, we thought we’d share a few of the success stories in more detail below.

Special Innovation Award

The GAGAs Special Innovation Award went to Kiwi & Pom, a Clerkenwell based design agency, who created a new identity for ‘Coffee Ground’, an artisan cafe within various Wyevale Garden Centres. The project included an interior design, brand identity, art direction and graphic design. The centrepiece of the design is a galvanized steel free-standing ‘shed’ clad with timber lapped boards – a concept which is close to the heart of every gardener. Designed to be as flexible as possible, the shed structure is modular allowing it to flex in length. The configuration also uses the rear of the shed to create a pleasant environment to sit – with a backdrop of weatherboard, plants, books and coffee. Kiwi & Pom also designed mobile galvanized plant screens to enclose the cafe space. For more information about the design click here.

Galvanizing in Detail Award

The GAGAs Galvanizing in Detail Award went to Hudson Architects for The Gunton’s Atrium on the existing campus of Norwich’s University of the Arts. The project was recognised for its glimmering, folded galvanized sheet staircase, which encourages greater interaction across the various disciplines taught within the building. The use of a rich palette of robust materials reflects the building’s semi-industrial character while creating an elegant and contemporary space at the heart of the building. Highly Commended Detail Award

The GAGAs awarded three ‘Highly Commended’ awards, but the stand-out went to Crossrail Place, which was recognised for interlacing a timber latticed roof which cantilevers out over the waters Of Canary Wharf. The project included 564 galvanized nodes, many of them unique, enabling 1418 glulam beams to be connected to form a 30m arched roof. The architects were Foster + Partners. In October 2016 the ‘UK Construction Week’ exhibition will take place at the NEC, in Birmingham, and Joseph Ash Galvanizing will be exhibiting as part of the ‘Surface & Materials Show’.

UK Construction Week is the largest construction trade event in the UK, which will unite over 650 exhibitors with an audience of over 24,000 trade visitors.

Have you ever wanted to see what goes on behind the scenes at a galvanizing plant? Would you like to know what happens to your steel fabrications once they arrive at our plants? Would you like the chance to network with fellow fabricators and colleagues from the steel industry?

If so, please join us at our Chesterfield plant Open Day on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 October 2016.

During the event we will provide tours of our facilities. Not only will you be able to see the galvanizing process in action, but you’ll also be shown the following:

Fork lift fleet
Local overnight facilities and changing facilities for truck drivers
Factory space and offices

The Joseph Ash technical team will also be on hand to answer any questions about galvanizing, or preparing steel for the hot dip galvanizing process, plus lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Joseph Ash Chesterfield has undergone some major developments and improvements since December 2014 (read more here) and we are excited to showcase these at the event.

Vision – The Future of the Built Environment opened its doors today and Joseph Ash Medway is there!

The Vision Show has started in London today and it’s been a great start to the morning as we’re meeting lots of people from the construction industry. And Mick Jackson, from Joseph Ash Galvanizing has already been captured on film by the Vision London film crew! (See photo.)

Joseph Ash Galvanizing sponsors RIDBA 60th anniversary gala dinner.

Formed in 1956, RIDBA – the Rural Industrial Design and Building Association – is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the organisation will be hosting a gala dinner on Thursday 16 June, and Joseph Ash Galvanizing is one of the premier sponsors.

The event looks set to be a fun night with a champagne reception, a fabulous dinner, and over 125 people expected to attend.

It will be a great place to network with modern agriculture and industrial buildings industry representatives including contractors, fabricators, designers, surveyors, planners, and manufacturers.

The dinner will be held at The Welcombe Hotel in Stratford-Upon-Avon, a beautiful Grade 11* listed 19th century neo-Jacobean mansion.

Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre in Islington

Thank you to everyone who visited our stand. Over 5660 people attended the event!

From Tuesday 9th until Thursday 11th February Joseph Ash Medway exhibited at the Surface Design Show at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London. It was a great event and we were very pleased to be there.

5000+ architects and designers attended throughout the 2.5 days, visiting many different stands and listening to excellent speeches and seminars. We saw some interesting interior and exterior coatings ideas, and we were happy to be showcasing our own superior duplex coatings – a mixture of galvanizing and powder coating – to attendees and exhibitors alike.

If you attended the Surface Design Show 2016 and visited our stand, we’d like to say thank you. It was a pleasure to meet you.

The Surface Design Show starts this week. If you’re attending, contact us for VIP entry passes.

The 2016 Surface Design Show will take place this week from Tuesday 9 February (preview evening) until Thursday 11 February and Joseph Ash Medway will be exhibiting. We’ll be showcasing our range of steel finishing treatments, with a specific focus on duplex coatings – a fusion of hot dip galvanizing and powder coating.

As well as visiting us on stand 536, if you’re attending, you’ll also be able to see a range of new and innovative surface solutions, materials and products from over 130 exhibitors.

It is a must-attend event for architects and designers.

The event is being held at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London and runs from 6.00-9.00pm on Tuesday, 11.00-9.00pm on Wednesday, and 11.00-5.00pm on Thursday.
